VIFF 2014: Art and Craft traces twin obsessions

      Art and Craft (USA)

Profiled in the New Yorker and elsewhere in the past few years, odd Mark Landis is a highly skilled but cruelly unsocialized forger who gets off on “donating” fake Monets and Picassos to museums throughout the U.S. Because he makes no profit from these ventures, he’s not technically a criminal—small comfort to the art-security expert who lost his livelihood trying to track Landis. As a portrait in twin obsessions, the film is riveting, and Stephen Ulrich’s noirish guitar score gives it one of the best soundtracks at VIFF.
