VIFF 2014: Hope and Wire chronicles disaster and survival

    1 of 2 2 of 2

      Hope and Wire (New Zealand)

This elaborate and engaging recreation might pour on more incident than we strictly need, considering how devastated Christchurch was by earthquakes in 2010 (which continue to this day). But veteran Gaylene Preston (War Stories) does a masterful job of matching news footage with re-created scenes of mayhem and intense family drama, and even some wised-up social comedy, with a fine cast led by Lord of the Rings veteran Bernard Hill as a Manchester socialist who’s seen one disaster too many.

      International Village, October 5 (1:30 p.m.); Vancity, October 6 (6:45 p.m.)

your joking right? This was comical. I actually laughed at how absurd this tripe was. What a dos service to the people who experienced this for real
