While there was sad news for Sense8 fans earlier this year, there's some good news for Vancouver-based fans of the TV series.

This year's Pride parade in Vancouver on Sunday (August 6) will include some special guests from the show.

Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski (The Matrix) and cast members Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Tina Desai, Brian J. Smith, and Alfonso Herrera.

The sci-fi drama follows eight strangers from around the world who become "sensates", or human beings who are emotionally and mentally interconnected.

The series was created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, who rose to fame with the Matrix trilogy, with J. Michael Straczynski for Netflix. At that time they were known as the Wachowski brothers but they have both since undergone gender transitions and identify as trans women. Thus, their participation in Vancouver's Pride parade has personal relevance for them.

They also made their directorial feature film debut with the 1996 crime thriller Bound, starring Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon, which was one of the few mainstream films at the time to feature female leads in a same-sex relationship.

If you're interested in meeting Lana or some of the cast members, here's your chance.

On Friday (August 4), there will be a fan meet-and-greet at the Davie Street Party with Lana, Onwumere, Riemelt, and Smith. They'll be at the party from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Davie Street between Burrard and Jervis streets.

Also, once Lana and the cast complete the parade route (which winds through the West End), they will appear at the Sunset Beach Festival main stage for some brief remarks at around 1:30 p.m.

Although Sense8 was cancelled earlier this year after two seasons, after fans launched campaigns to save the show, a two-hour finale was scheduled for 2018.

Other cast members (who won't be appearing in Vancouver) include Miguel Angel Sivestre, Jamie Clayton, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, Terrence Mann, Anupam Kher, Daryl Hannah, and Naveen Andrews.
