(Georgia/Estonia)

Manana, a middle-aged Georgian housewife in a rundown apartment complex in Tbilisi, has been giving into her longheld literary aspirations to write and publish a novel. However, her obsessive devotion strains her relationships with her family, particularly her husband who is intent on traditional gender roles. But it's the brutally honest and sexual content of her novel that truly sets things off. Meanwhile, Manana finds support from a stationary store owner, who champions the manuscript as a masterpiece. As Manana defies her husband's wishes, is she surrendering to artistic genius or deteriorating into mental illness? Or both? With shades of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's famous feminist short story "The Yellow Wallpaper", this psychological drama, chosen to represent Georgia in the best foreign-language category at the Oscars, marks an impressive and noteworthy debut by Ana Urushadze.
