The Christmas season arrived early yesterday, as Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air, Pitch Perfect, and Trolls) began filming a new Disney holiday film in Vancouver.

Alternately referred to as Nicole and Noelle, the feature revolves around Santa Claus’s daughter (Kendrick) who is tasked with filling Santa’s shoes upon the old elf’s retirement.

Yesterday, the film’s large crew descended on the 100-block of West 4th Avenue, where they transformed Loungeworks furniture rentals into a Phoenix-based yoga studio.

Amid numerous prop cars bearing Arizona plates (and patiently-waiting extras bundled up in blankets), the lighting crew spent an extended time transforming Vancouver’s chilly 49th parallel sunshine into Phoenix’s warm glow. After more than 30 minutes of checks and adjustments on Kendrick’s stand-in, the star arrived on set in a black Suburban and strode quickly to her mark.

Directed by screenwriter Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality, Music and Lyrics) Nicole/Noelle also stars Billy Eichner, Bill Hader, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Julie Hagerty, and Shirley MacLaine. The film has a planned release date of November 18, 2018.
