Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins killed after actor Alec Baldwin discharges prop gun on set

One of the film unions says it contained a live round of ammunition

      A prop gun that killed a cinematographer and injured a director allegedly contained a "single live round", according to an email sent by a film union.

      Alec Baldwin, the lead actor on Rust, reportedly fired the gun on-set.

      The director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, didn't survive after being transferred to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.

      The director, Joel Souza, was wounded when he was also struck.

      IATSE Local 44 sent an email to its members describing the event as an "accidental weapons discharge", according to IndieWire.

      Hutchins, 42, was born in Ukraine and her credits include Archenemy, Blindfire, and The Mad Hatter.

      Her final Instagram post shows her riding a horse in desert.

      Baldwin has tweeted that there are no words to describe his shock and sadness over the tragic accident.
