The Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) is presenting an online talk by film editor Joi McMillon this Thursday (May 27).

McMillon is best known for her work on Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, the Best Picture winner at the 89th Academy Awards. More recently she edited The Underground Railroad, the Amazon limited series based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

At her creator talk McMillon will offer an insider’s perspective on how a story takes its final shape in the editing room, the importance of the female lens, and her collaborations with Jenkins.

The event will be hosted by Vancouver filmmaker Karen Lam, writer-director of The Curse of Willow Song.

The free talk takes place at 6 p.m. Pacific time and you can register here.
