      Needless to say, everyone appears to be overeager to kick 2020 to the curb and usher in 2021.

      Although it may not rid us of our current challenges, at least it'll provide a much-needed sense of renewal after an exhausting year.

      If you want to ring in the new year in a very Canadian way, Rick Mercer will host Canada’s New Year’s Eve—A Countdown to 2021, starting at 11 p.m. (in every time zone) on Thursday (December 31) on CBC TV and CBC Gem.

      Lights and Felix Cartal

      Among the performances lined up, pop star Lights and producer Felix Cartal will perform their dance-pop collaboration “Love Me” from Vancouver.

      In addition, Vancouver singer Tyler Shaw (葉銘恆) will join forces with vocalist Simone Denny to perform Shaw’s “Remember” and Love Inc.’s “You’re a Superstar”.

      Other performers from across the country will include:

      • country star Brett Kissel from Flat Lake, Alberta;
      • folk singer-songwriter William Prince from Winnipeg;
      • Alan Doyle and friends from around Newfoundland and Labrador;
      • folk-rock group The Jerry Cans with guests from Iqaluit, Nunavut;
      • hip-hop and electro trio Random Recipe from Montreal;
      • alt-pop duo Neon Dreams from Halifax;
      • the Maritime Bhangra Dancers from Halifax.

      Full details are available at the CBC website.
