Here’s everything new that’s coming to Amazon Prime Video Canada in September 2021.

      Cinderella

Yes, this new take on the beloved fairy tale is the reason James Corden organized a flash mob and inconvenienced Los Angeles drivers over the weekend, but don’t hold the marketing against the movie. Pitch Perfect creator Kay Cannon directs Camila Cabello in this modernized musical, featuring Idina Menzel as wicked stepmom Vivian, Pose breakout Billy Porter as fairy godparent Fab G, and Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver as the royal parents of Nicholas Galitzine’s understandably confused Prince Robert. September 3

      Soleil Moon Frye

      Kid 90

If Amazon’s Val Kilmer documentary left you craving more camcorder-driven looks at rising Hollywood stars, this new project—curated from hours of footage shot by Soleil Moon Frye as a child performer in the early '90s—should scratch that itch, as the once and future Punky Brewster films icons of the era like Stephen Dorff, Balthazar Getty, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Brian Austin Green, and, somehow, Perry Farrell. September 3

Sydney Sweeney and Justice Smith star in The Voyeurs.

      The Voyeurs

Other than the odd think-piece about how badly Basic Instinct has dated, the erotic thrillers of the '80s and '90s are mostly forgotten now—so it’s been fascinating to see the genre return in the hands of a new generation of filmmakers and actors. Here, Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus) and Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) play a Montreal couple drawn into the lives of their very attractive neighbours (Ben Hardy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo), with disastrous results. And keep an eye out for Jean Yoon from Kim’s Convenience as the requisite grown-up authority figure. September 10

      The Mad Women’s Ball

Mélanie Laurent’s period drama tells the story of a spirited 19th century woman, Eugénie (Lou de Laâge), whose ability to talk to the dead lands her in an asylum, where she enlists the help of a nurse (Laurent, who also cowrote the script) to survive the “treatments” of the patronizing, patriarchal Professor Charcot (Grégoire Bonnet). Any contemporary resonance is entirely intentional, of course. September 17

69: The Saga Of Danny Hernandez

Everyone loves a trainwreck, right? Danny Hernandez, aka Tekashi69, seems to be the exception to that rule: the rapper (and convicted felon) has spent years working to establish himself as a flaming locomotive bent on running down everything in his path. In a new documentary, filmmaker Vikram Gandhi (Kumaré, the young Barack Obama biopic Barry) explores Hernandez’s journey from obscurity to infamy by interviewing the people who knew him best. September 30
