As part of Juno week in Vancouver this March, music fans and aspiring songwriters are being given the opportunity to spend an afternoon with the team of singer Jann Arden and producer Bob Rock.

The two industry veterans will host a 2018 Juno Songwriters’ Circle event on March 25 at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets, which start at $39.50 plus service charges) go on sale at 10 a.m. January 19 at www.ticketmaster.ca.

Rock’s career started as a guitarist in the ’80s when he cofounded the Payolas, a band which came out of the Vancouver punk scene to eventually conquer radio with hits like “Eyes of a Stranger” and “Where Is This Love”.

When not onstage with the Payolas he was learning the ropes behind the scenes as an engineer and producer on early Vancouver records by the likes of the Subhumans, Young Canadians, and Pointed Sticks. By the late ’80s he was one of the most sought-after producers in the business with a Midas touch. Mammoth career-defining records that Rock produced include Metallica’s Metallica (The Black Album) and Mötley Crüe’s Dr. Feelgood.

Arden released her debut album, Time for Mercy in 1993 and then quickly established herself as one of the most colourful and quotable performers in Canada. Multiple Juno nominations over the past three decade have led to wins for songwriter of the year in 1995 and 2002 as well as female artist of the year in 1995 and 2001.

For their Juno Songwriters’ Circle event, Rock and Arden will share the stories behind some of their most iconic songs. The afternoon will also feature performances as well as guest appearances from Juno nominees. Proceeds will benefit MusiCounts, a Juno-affiliated charity that helps fund school and community music programs in Canada’s most vulernable communities.

Juno week takes place March 19 to 25 in Vancouver.
