Westward Music Festival, which established itself as one of Vancouver’s breakout events last year, has announced the first round of artists for its 2018 edition.

Headliners for the second installment of the multi-day music and arts showcase, taking place this September, will include soul-pop maverick and Grammy nominee Kali Uchis, alt-R&B artist Kelela, and genre-mashing London expat Blood Orange.

Also performing will be critically adored indie chanteuse Angel Olsen, Toronto premium punk deconstructionists Metz, grunge legends Mudhoney and neo-soul project Rhye.

Vancouver acts signing on for Westward Music Festival’s second year include pop-rock legends the Odds and alt-prog trio We Are the City.

As with the first edition, this year’s Westward Music Festival will be presented by MRG Concerts. In a press release, the company’s president and found Matt Gibbons said, "The MRG Concerts team and myself are very much looking forward to the 2018 edition of Westward. Due to the incredible support from Vancouver over the past year, we have been able to grow the festival to include more shows and venues, all while keeping with our mission to provide the city’s music fans the memorable experiences they are looking for.”

Westward Music Festival was launched last year at a time when major multi-day showcases like Pemberton Music Festival and Squamish Valley Music Festival had folded. Where those festivals were destination events taking place out of town, Westward focussed on Vancouver, staging shows in intimate venues like the Vogue and Biltmore. The inaugural fest featured a genre-spanning lineup that included Gov’t Mule, Vince Staples, A Tribe Called Red, Hannah Georgas, and Dear Rouge.

This year’s Westward Music Festival will take place September 13-16 in multiple venues across Vancouver.

Pre-sale tickets will be available at westwardfest.com and ticketfly.com on Wednesday (February 7). Regular onsales start on February 13. Those who prefer to leave the house occasionally can also pick up tickets at Red Cat Records locations.
