Nardwuar schools Cardi B on history of Vancouver's Penthouse Nightclub in divine interview

National treasure Nardwuar the Human Serviette consistently delivers in the interview department, but the intrepid journalist and noted Vancouverite’s latest upload—a sit-down with Cardi B, arguably rap’s biggest personality at the moment—is one for the books.

Ahead of her cameo-studded (and twerk-tastic) performance at Coachella last night (April 15), which took place against a stage set she funded herself, the Bronx rapper made time for the eccentric Canuck to talk children’s book series Junie B. Jones, stripping, and yogurt, among other topics.

As is customary in his always-entertaining ’views, the Human Serviette brought a slew of gifts for the stripper turned reality-TV figure turned hip-hop star, including a copy of Aaron Chapman’s B.C. Book Prize–nominated Liquor, Lust, and the Law: The Story of Vancouver’s Legendary Penthouse Nightclub. Fortunately for those unfamiliar with the city’s strip scene, what followed was some fun trivia about what the Nard calls Vancouver’s #1 strip joint.

Did you know, for example, that famed jazz musician Louis Armstrong once paid the Penthouse Nightclub a visit? Or that singer, actor, and comedian Sammy Davis Jr. was known to chill at the spot? Well, Cardi didn’t! “Men just love half-naked women or butt-naked women,” she observes astutely.

Other quotable moments include Cardi politely declining Ann Corio’s How to Strip for Your Husband on vinyl (“Oh, I don’t need this. I know how to”); Cardi using her pregnancy to dodge a question about that time she may or may not have broken someone’s nose (“You know what? I’m going to have a child so I can’t tell that story anymore”); and Cardi feigning outrage at Nard’s assumption that she has enough cash in the bank for a turntable (“Well, how you know I could afford one?!”)
