XXXtentacion shot dead in Miami at the age of 20

Famously troubled breakout rapper XXXtentacion has been reported as being shot dead in Miami. He was 20 years old.

According to TMZ.com, he was shopping for motorcyles when a gunman drove by opening fire.

XXXtentacion first surfaced with an abrasive strain of rap exemplified by his breakthrough "Look at Me!". Even as his star started to rise his life off-stage was marked by constant controversy.

The rapper (who was born Jahseh Onfroy) openly acknowledged spending time in juvenile detention as a kid. In 2016 he was charged with beating his ex-girlfriend to the point where she coudn't see. As stories of other abusive behaviours surfaced, he was temporarily removed by Spotify as part of the streaming service's new "public hate content and hateful conduct policy."

Despite this, XXXtentacion scored Top 40 hits, including "Sad!", with his album ? debuted at number one Billboard in 2017.

Although under house arrest, the rapper was allowed to tour.
