It's yet another end of an era. Vancouver's nightclub scene will lose one of its wildest venues when Club 23 West closes this weekend.
After the Gastown venue at 23 West Cordova first launched as a nightclub in 1988, it has undergone numerous reincarnations as nightclubs, such as the Hungry Eye, the Cruel Elephant, the Hindenburg, the Limelight, and the current Club 23 West.
Club 23 West has served numerous communities, including alternative music, electronic music, fetish, LGBT, and underground or alternative cultures.
The block is slated a redevelopment project for a multi-storey mixed-use building situated at 33 West Cordova.
A series of parties this weekend will lead up to the final closure.
Tonight (July 20), the final Organix psy-trance party will be held from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. (cover $7).
On Saturday (July 21), the last Sin City Fetish Night to be held at the club will run from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. with a fetish dress code in effect, and kinky dungeon and rope play areas.
However, it's not over for the Sin City, as there are forthcoming events on the horizon, including the fast-approaching annual Vancouver Fetish Weekend which will run from July 26 to 30 at various venues around town.
But for a blowout finale, the last party at Club 23 West will be held on Sunday (July 22), starting at 9 p.m. (with cover only $5). The evening will include DJs Pandemonium, R-Lex, Contrasoma, and Evilyn13, who will be playing tracks spanning new wave, goth-industrial, post-punk, rock 'n' roll, and more.
Lineups are anticipated so arrive early to bid your farewells.
