The Georgia Straight musical advent calendar for Christmas 2018—Day 14: Heavy-metal and hard-rock edition

    1 of 8 2 of 8

Christmas and heavy metal make for an uneasy mix. After all, metalheads don't exactly have a reputation for religious reverence.

But there are definitely some seasonally appropriate songs you can bang your head to. Twisted Sister, Helix, Rob Halford (Judas Priest), and a few others have even put out full-length Christmas albums. And then there's Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which may or may not count as metal, but we'll give them a nod simply because the band is composed of moonlighting members of Savatage.

Anyhow, here are a few tunes to get you moshin' around the Christmas tree.

Twisted Sister, "O Come All Ye Faithful"
      Halford, "Get Into the Spirit"
      Orion's Reign, "Deck the Halls"
August Burns Red, "Frosty the Snowman"
      Trans-Siberian Orchestra, "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo"

There's no video for this one, but it so epically over-the-top that I had to include it:

Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Rudy Sarzo, and Simon Wright, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
