If you're wondering what to get that diehard Pink Floyd fan on your Christmas list this year, here's an idea.
On November 29, Pink Floyd Records will release a 16-disc box set titled Pink Floyd The Later Years that contains enough Floydian goodies to satiate the most hardcore fan.
Just make sure he or she's not a Roger Waters fanatic.
The Later Years covers the material Pink Floyd created from 1987 onwards, after Waters split from David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright. While not as iconic as the tunes on earlier Floyd blockbusters like Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, the music the remaining members made on the studio albums A Momentary Lapse Of Reason (1987), The Division Bell (1994), and The Endless River (2014) is nothing to sniff at.
The super-edition package (five CDs, six Blu-rays, five DVDs, two 7-inch vinyl singles) features over six hours of previously unheard audio and over seven hours of previously unseen audiovisuals from those three albums. There's also full unreleased audio and remastered films from the 1989 Venice and 1990 Knebworth concerts, unearthed rehearsal footage, the full-length Ian Emes film of The Endless River, and the first-ever release of Pink Floyd’s last live performance with David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright together at the 2007 Syd Barrett Tribute Concert.
Throw in replica tour programs, a lyric book, and a 60-page photo book and you've got one high-falutin' box set that puts the lux in deluxe, but it's gonna cost ya. You can find out exactly how much when you pre-order here.
(For the cash-strapped among us, two-LP and one-CD "highlight packages" are also available.)
