On Our Radar: Said the Whale celebrates the verdant beauty of the West Coast in "Gambier Island Green" video

As far as concepts for music videos go, it couldn't be simpler. "Gambier Island Green" shows a day in the life of Said the Whale's Ben Worcester (and his dog Trout) at his family's cabin on the island of the track's title.

The song comes from the band's most recent album, Cascadia, and the video was shot and directed by SJ Findlay. Worcester says:

This is a song for a place dear to my heart. And a perfect album closer for a record that was partially produced on Gambier Island, using solar power to run sessions late into the summer nights. I sing this song like a mantra, it’s meditation. When I’m homesick it can transport me. When I’m in my place it can envelope me. I wrote it nearly decade ago as a gift for my family and I sing it for them when we’re together, to freeze time, capture the spirit of a place we share. We know the trees and animals, like neighbours, I view them more as characters in my story than objects and try to honour them. My deep love and overwhelming nostalgia, overflowing, overflowing.

Said the Whale kicks off a national tour with a show in Nanaimo on September 26. The very next day sees the release of the deluxe edition of Cascadia, which includes five additional tracks.
