Vancouver indie-rock band Calpurnia announces breakup

The Vancouver-spawned band Calpurnia—known to some as "that side project of Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things" and to others as, you know, an actual indie-rock act with songs and everything—is breaking up.

The group made the announcement today via an Instagram post, which noted "We are extremely grateful for the support we’ve received over the past few years. What seemed to us like an unimaginable reality came to be, and we have been thrilled to share the ride with you. It’s been an honour and a gift to meet, work with, and play for so many wonderful people. We feel lucky and hugely grateful for the many fantastic opportunities that came our way. We’re all going to be starting fresh chapters in our lives: new projects, new music, new creative ventures, and new experiences to come."

What those new projects are remains to be seen, but their formative experiences playing in a rock band have clearly left an impression on the members of Calpurnia. As bassist jack Anderson told the Straight last December, “What makes rock so cool is that it’s so accessible. You can take three chords and any crappy acoustic guitar and be ready to rip. All of us can say that we wanted to play guitar or drums right from when we were little. It was the case where it was ‘Oh, there’s a guitar lying around the house—I think I’ll pick it up and try it.’ There was a spark in all of us right from the beginning where this is what we wanted to do.”

Dear Friends, It’s bittersweet to share this news, but we want to let you know that our time playing together as Calpurnia has come to an end. We are extremely grateful for the support we’ve received over the past few years. What seemed to us like an unimaginable reality came to be, and we have been thrilled to share the ride with you. It’s been an honour and a gift to meet, work with, and play for so many wonderful people. We feel lucky and hugely grateful for the many fantastic opportunities that came our way. We’re all going to be starting fresh chapters in our lives: new projects, new music, new creative ventures, and new experiences to come. One last giant thank you to our friends at Royal Mountain Records, our manager Bix, our families, and especially our amazing fans. We’ll never forget you! -Calpurnia ( @mennovers)
