Ending speculation that he's hit the skids thanks to drugs, Justin Bieber announces he's been battling Lyme disease

If there's a downside to being a mega-celebrity, it's that folks tend to wildly speculate about your personal life with zero credible information or insight.

No one knows this better than Justin Bieber. Since riding YouTube out of Stratford, Ontario to global superstardom, the multi-platinum pop crooner has found his every move and public appearance scrutinized, and not just by the ever-enterprising investigative team at TMZ.com.

Every time the dude pops up in the news, the world assumes the worst. Remember that time he pissed in the janitor's bucket in a New York City restaurant, causing the world to speculate he had a weak bladder? There's been little since then to suggest he's doing his part to keep the stockholders of Adult Depends feeling flush.

How about when he was road-racing in a residential neighbourhood of Miami while under the influence, suggesting that he had a drinking—not to mention driving—problem? In 2017 it was reported that Bieber had decided to stop drinking, which was kind of funny because he was underage and living in America at the time, somehow managing to buy his booze at Target without being carded.

As for the driving part of the equation, who knows what the truth is there. Yes, when he's not revving the shit out of the engine in the below clip, he's making right-hand turns from the left traffic lane, but who among us in Vancouver doesn't witness the same unfathomable idiocy at least 30 times each 15 minutes.

This brings us to the start of the 2020s, where speculation has been running rampant that Bieber has been battling something serious. Thanks to his sometimes run-down physical appearance, addiction has been repeatedly floated as one possible reason for his disappearance from the public eye at the tail end of last decade. As the singer slowly eases back in to public life after a couple of years of domesticity with his wife Hailey Rhode Bieber, he's decided to become proactive when it comes to rumours about him.

Obviously aware that he's not looking like someone who gets three square meals and eight hours of sleep these days, Bieber has come out and revealed that he's been diagnosed with Lyme disease, an infection-related to bacteria carried by ticks. The 25-year-old broke the news on the world's number-one go-to source for reliable and credible information in 2020: Instagram.

Yesterday, Bieber took to the social media site to write: "While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like shit, on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health. These things will be explained further in a docu series I'm putting on YouTube shortly. You can learn all that I've been battling and OVERCOMING!! It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever."

Bieber is scheduled to release a new album sometime in 2020, his first since 2015's Purpose. His first single from the record, "Yummy", shot straight to the stop of streaming services after its release on January 3. For those who can't wait for more Bieber-related news, January 27 will bring the start of a 10-part YouTube documentary series called Seasons, with episodes airing on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Ten minutes after Episode 1, expect the world to take to the web to speculate something's really wrong with him. And we're not just talking a weak bladder on a seemingly inability to pilot a $465,000 Lamborghini Aventador in a fashion that doesn't make one wonder if a completely loaded Stevie Wonder is behind the wheel.
