Led Zeppelin's spirit will be reborn in Vancouver via Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening

Vancouver's hardcore Led Zeppelin fans have reason to rejoice.

No, Robert Plant has not decided to get back with surviving members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones and embark on a stadium tour that will make them all fat stacks of cash.

But the next best thing to Zeppelin itself is headed to town in the form of Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening.

For the uninitiated, Jason Bonham is the 53-year-old son of Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who passed away in September of 1980. Since his dad's death, Jason has played with Plant, Page, and Jones on different occasions, including the historic Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert in London in 2007. If anyone is capable of recreating Bonzo's stellar drumwork, it's him.

When I interviewed Jason back in December of 1989--when his group Bonham was opening for the Cult at the Pacific Coliseum--I asked him what it was like growing up with a certified rock legend as a father.

"He was just dad to me," Bonham replied. "I never really looked at him as Mr. Supergroup, John Bonham. And I never even realized, until later in life, when I started coming over here [to North America] just how big Led Zeppelin really was."

When the undying presence of Zeppelin became evident, Jason started performing old Zep classics with his own hand-picked touring band, keeping his dad's musical spirit alive, and his latest jaunt brings him to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on May 17. Tickets go on sale this Friday (March 6) at 10 am and you can find them here.

It's an all-ages show, so bring the kids and let them know what great rock music sounds like why don'tcha?
