New Year's Eve at the Hotel Vancouver

    1 of 1 2 of 1

It’s never too early to start making your New Year’s Eve plans, mostly because leaving things to the last minute is guaranteed to bring PTSD flashbacks of that time you spent four hours waiting in a December 31 lineup that never moved at FRAMS in the Fraser Arms Hotel.

Might we humbly suggest that you act now on the guaranteed-to-sell-out New Year’s at the Grand Historic Hotel Vancouver bash? The first stamp of approval is for the folks throwing the party, namely the people at the Arrival Agency, who’ve brought Vancouver such gold-star events as the annual Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival, not to mention the now-legendary New Year’s parties at the old Waldorf.

The second reason to attend the fabulous Hotel Vancouver is the sheer breadth of what you get with an admission ticket, namely six pop-up clubs under one roof, the entertainment including Slimroy, spinning the best of old R&B; block-rocking DJs like Rich A and Yurie; live sets by shit-kicking roots-rockers Mac Pontiac and Rich Hope and His Blue Rich Rangers; magician Travis Bernhardt; offerings from Vancouver Opera; a real-time video installation by the legendary Paul Wong; and, well, you get the idea.

Move on those tickets now, because the alternative is standing out in the cold for three hours before finally giving up and trying till dawn to hail a nonexistent cab, after which you finally cut bait and start waiting in a line that doesn’t move at Denny’s.

Hey IP, the hotel has doubled bar staff. Lineups have been sorted this year.

The recent reno took down a place that says the hotel is dedicated to the Citizens of Vancouver. The British and Columbia ballrooms have similar plaques indicating that they are donated to the province, I hope those haven't been vandalized.

The hotel has the city's armature on it. You can't use a city's armature without permission. Why aren't the homeless being housed in the Hotel Vancouver? Every city is supposed to have a Hotel (house) for its homeless and for visitors. Otherwise, it's not a city. Cities provide hospitality.
