Jump in your car or hop on a bus and get up Pemberton. Tonight (September 25) there’s a free party celebrating the announcement of the 2014 Pemberton Music Festival.

Three days of music and art will hit Pemberton Valley the weekend of July 18 courtesy of Huka Entertainment.

Lineup details have yet to be announced but festivalgoers can expect the mix of everything that’s come to characterize parties thrown for the stunted attention spans of millennials.

“We cater to the iPod generation, where playlists, not genres, dominate listening habits,” says Huka CEO A.J. Niland quoted in a media release. “Our vision for Pemberton Music Festival includes a wide spectrum of rock, indie, hip-hop, EDM, and more, anchored by top-level headliners.”

Options for sleeping will include on-site camping and shuttles to and from Whistler.

Tonight’s jamboree is happening at the Meadows at Pemberton Golf Course (1730 Airport Road, Pemberton). Live music and special guests will be in attendance. The party is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

“Our launch parties are always a bit unusual, and we’ll have a surprise or two in store for everyone who attends,” says Niland. “We’re inviting our friends in the community and the general public to celebrate with us, so everyone will understand why in July of next year, all roads lead to Pemberton.”

To host the festival Huka Entertainment has partnered with the Sunstone Group and the Lil’wat Nation. The Pemberton Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Pemberton, Whistler Blackcomb, and Tourism Whistler were also quoted in the event’s release expressing their support for the event.

A limited number of “Founder’s Program” tickets go on sale on Friday (September 27) at 9 a.m. Those three-day passes will go for $189 and include an amenities bundle that’s only available with these early-bird tickets.

Update: Pemberton Music Festival reveals big ambitions at a launch party for the locals.

We should all be excited about the many Canadian Festivals that are happening across BC. I can't believe that we are encouraging/allowing a massive multinational company owned by Clear Channel (SFX/HUKA) to show up in our beautiful wilderness, make a huge mess (take note of the last time LN tried this) and no one has any interest in protecting all of the extremely hard working independent festivals like Basscoast, Rifflandia etc. that struggle to pay their bills, competing with the likes of Sasquatch etc. I hope the BC music scene stands up for itself and boycott's this - musicians and festival goers here deserve better - What a complete disappointment for our music scene.

HUGE opportunity here to be THE festival that brings The Dave Matthews Band back to Western Canada (any of Canada, really, Toronto excluded).. a perfect festival band - who has played Hangout in the past, so the promoters should know how big a deal this will be.
