My Favourite Thing: Fond of Tigers' Stephen Lyons

My Favourite Thing is a video feature where the Georgia Straight gets interesting folks from around town to list off, among other things, their favourite performers, live gigs, and singers. And, of course, their favourite thing.

As a mainstay in Vancouver's underground scene, Stephen Lyons is known for having a hand in a number of the city's experimental music groups, including Fond of Tigers, Cloudsplitter, Limbs of the Stars, and more. Earlier this week, Lyons sat down with the Straight to tell us about a few of his favourite things.

Post-rock outfit Fond of Tigers may have begun as Lyons' solo project in 2000, but it has since evolved, now consisting of seven members, including JP Carter (trumpet), Morgan McDonald (piano), Jesse Zubot (violin), Shanto Bhattacharya (bass), Skye Brooks (percussion) and Dan Gaucher (percussion). Lyons and his bandmates won a Juno award in 2011 in the instrumental category for their album Western & Continent, and are currently working on their fourth studio album.

Check out Lyons in Fond of Tigers at the Fox Cabaret on Thursday (January 28) at 10 p.m., as part of the 2016 PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.
