As one of the founders of local pop-rock outfit Said the Whale, Tyler Bancroft has accrued plenty of experience when it comes to ordering merchandise. Now he’s putting those skills to good use by launching his own company. Magnetic North Co. is geared to bands and other clients looking to design their own products, with a particular emphasis on unique, fashion-forward items (so probably not screen-printed T-shirts). Bancroft will be sourcing much of the merch from Asia.

“I wanted to visit the country to get a sense of how things work before I could feel really comfortable using China as a production channel,” the vocalist-guitarist told the Straight. “I’ve learned that China is full of extremely skilled workers, and from what I’ve seen they are working in good conditions and are in good spirits.”

Bancroft is aiming to launch Magnetic North’s website in February, and he’s already taken some orders, including a “short run of product” for Dan Mangan.
