A Spotify playlist of the Straight's 50 best-ever songs from Vancouver

By now you’re probably convinced we’re either the most perceptive collection of music obsessives in Vancouver or the most out-to-lunch group of ignoroids on the planet Earth. Which is another way of saying you either wholeheartedly agree with our Best of Vancouver list of greatest-ever singles to come out of this rainy backwater, or can’t believe the number of glaring omissions.

Should you need need to be swayed one way or the other, we’re here to help. We’ve created a Spotify playlist of Top 50 singles suitable for streaming while you do the dishes, dig a ditch, eat lunch, or sit there on the bus grimly wondering why in the hell you continue to take the bus instead of driving, biking, or investing in a hydrogen-fuelled jetpack.

A quick caveat: a number of the songs (an unlucky 13, to be exact) that you'll find in the paper and on Straight.com aren’t, for some unfathomable reason, available on Spotify. These include the Young Canadians insanely great “Hawaii”, Zimmers Hole's hellaciously molten ”This Flight Tonight", and the Secret V’s' goddamn deathless “Waiting for the Drugs to Take Hold”. Can someone at Spotify please do something about that pronto?

Should you be curious about just how great the missing songs are, simply click back to Straight.com, where you can fill in the blanks with the YouTube clips we’ve lovingly provided for each entry.

All right. Click below, crank it, and don’t forget to bellow along to the “I’ve been drinking” part of “Have Not Been the Same”, even if you’re on the bus, sitting there wondering why the hell you always end up sitting next to the guy who plunks himself down and then promptly pulls out dental floss and nail clippers.
