To mark the official DVD release of Bloodied But Unbowed on December 1, director Susanne Tabata assembled a new cut of her widely praised Vancouver punk doc to include a recent interview with Jello Biafra. Tabata first attempted to interview Biafra with cinematographer Danny Nowak in Seattle in 2009, but the U.S. had other ideas. “We went there four days after the underwear bomber incident,” Tabata told the Straight, “and we were basically arraigned at the border.”

Skull Skates is handling distribution of the DVD, which is also accessible through Tabata’s website. A limited collector’s edition includes a photo-essay by Bev Davies, Eric Lohrenz’s Tunnel Canary Documentary, Glen Sanford’s film Useless—“a biographical sketch of Gerry Useless during his parole years”—plus the exceedingly rare Peter Lipskis film, Commercials for Free, “about a guy that hangs around Vancouver and he ends up at a Subhumans gig at Indian Centre”.

“It’s way underpriced,” Tabata said of the three-disc set, which retails for $29.99. “I don’t know what we were thinking. It’s an amazing package.” Meanwhile, the “Jello Biafra cut” also airs on Super Channel on Tuesday (December 13).
