Canadian Music Week Conference streams live May 18 to 21

      Canadian Music Week, now in its 38th year, takes place online next week, running from May 18 to 21.

      According to the CMW website, the conference is "Canada’s leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country’s music, media, and entertainment industries."

      It includes a trade exposition, awards shows, and music festival featuring virtual performances by hundreds of bands.

      Conference speakers include rocker-author-activist Bif Naked, singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie, Island Records founder Chris Blackwell, songwriter-producer Desmond Child, producer-composer Nile Rodgers, and rapper-producer Timbaland.

      Events include Music Directors Panel: the Minds Behind the Show, a roundtable discussion moderated by Feldman Agency vice-president Joel Baskin; Rise of the Independent Artist, a panel moderated by Tandemworks owner Oscar Furtado; Dream Teams: Songwriting Partnerships That Make the Hits, hosted by Hipgnosis Songs LTD CEO Merck Mercuriadis; and Hot Topics in Music Publishing, moderated by Music Publishers Canada CEO Margaret McGuffin.
