You didn't have to know Eddie Van Halen personally to love the guy.

He was easy to love just from his music. Or from his ever-present, million-dollar smile.

Van Halen's son Wolfgang really, really loved him though--and from the video he posted on YouTube yesterday, you can see why.

The visuals for Wolfie's new song, "Distance", are comprised of home-video clips that show Eddie fawning all over his only child. He looks about as happy as a dad can be, that famous smile rarely leaving his face.

“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him," writes Wolfgang, now 29, in the YouTube notes. "While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life.

"I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.”

"I’m so happy/you’ve found a place/that’s better for you/than this rock we’re living on," sings Wolfgang in the opening lines of the song.

Eddie Van Halen died of cancer last month, on October 6, at the age of 65.
