Eugene Chadbourne cuts swath through town

Eugene Chadbourne makes another of his increasingly frequent stops in Vancouver next week. The maverick guitar genius, whose wild résumé includes work with John Zorn, Turbonegro, and Sun City Girls joins a gang of accordionists for a specially themed “accordion night” at Nyala (4148 Main Street) on Tuesday (September 6).

The night before that, he’ll be joined by drummer Kenton Loewen and saxophonist Darren Williams at Kozmik Zoo (53 West Broadway). This is the same trio that blew the roof off Lick in June 2010 with an improv set based very loosely on material by Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman.

Williams, who’s looking at his sixth collaboration with Chadbourne, took a deep breath when asked what to expect from Monday’s show. “There might be some jazz debauchery, some country and western—that’s unavoidable—and probably some sideways surf music,” he said. “But playing with Eugene, you can have some plans beforehand, and that’s great, but you also just have to hang on.”

The September 6th show is called "Accordion Hallucinations" and is the 26th installment of the experimental concert series Audio Hallucinations. We are fully stoked to be involved in bringing the excessive weirdness that is DR. CHADBOURNE to another Vancouver audience!
