Vancouverites wanting to support First Nation's access to justice can take part in a unique fundraising event on August 14.

That's when local vocalist Desirée Dawson will take part in a floating benefit concert for Heiltsuk Nation’s legal challenge protecting the Great Bear Sea.

Those wanting to hear Dawson's soulful stylings can paddle their own kayak, canoe, rowboat, or stand-up paddleboard to the deck of the Providence, a tall wooden sailing ship that will be located within paddling distance of the Jericho Beach Sailing Centre.

"After a challenging year of separation and uncertainty," reads the event info, "the Festival Afloat offers people a way to come together in a creative, safe, and supportive way.

"The concert also give folks a tangible way to stand in support of First Nation's access to justice, to level the playing field so that Indigenous rights and stewardship values can be upheld by the courts."
