One of the most influential, and loudest, acts in the history of rock ’n’ roll, Neil Young & Crazy Horse is headed to Vancouver as part of the Love Earth Tour. The band responsible for hits like “Cinnamon Girl”, “Rockin’ in the Free World”, “Down By the River”, and “Hey Hey, My My” will play Deer Lake Park on Tuesday, July 23.

Tickets go on sale on March 7 at 10am.

Crazy Horse’s first appearance as Young’s backing band came in 1969 with the release of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. In the decades that have followed, the collaboration has proven one of the most enduring in rock ’n’ roll, producing seminal and famously overamped records such as Rust Never Sleeps, Ragged Glory, and Zuma.

Over the past half-century, Neil Young & Crazy Horse has inspired everyone from straight-up rock bands to grunge legends Nirvana and Pearl Jam to alternative flag bearers Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr.

Those buying tickets for shows on the Love Earth Tour will receive a free CD copy of upcoming double-LP FU##IN’ UP, which features versions of songs— “Heart of Steel”, “Broken Circle”, “Chance on Love”—pulled from the Neil Young & Crazy Horse archives. The album will also be released on coloured vinyl for the upcoming edition Record Store Day on April 20.

As you get yourself psyched for the West Coast return of the Neil Young & Crazy Horse, here’s a bit of trivia: Young is pretty much Nardwuar the Human Serviette’s Great White Whale—the one artist he hasn’t been able to land an interview with despite years of trying.

Fun fact: the Straight once got him close. After being tipped off that Young was eating at the Blue Water Cafe sometime back in the ’00s, we alerted Nardwuar, who dropped everything to break several speed records getting to Gastown.

Young acknowledged his presence on the street upon leaving the restaurant, but declined to do an interview, even though that interview would have concluded with “Keep on rockin’ in the free world, and “Doot doola doot doo.”
