It’s been three whole decades since Colin James released his seminal jump blues album, Colin James and the Little Big Band (which was recorded at Vancouver’s legendary Little Mountain Sound Studios). It made a little big splash. The breezy, swingy versions of blues standards helped cement James as one of Canada’s most beloved musicians.
So it’s no surprise that his two-night stand at the Commodore Ballroom this past weekend was packed to the rafters with fans old and new. With crowds this enthused, the ’90s swing resurgence might be due another comeback. Photographer Tom Paillé was there to capture the fun.
