As this is the time when the Georgia Straight is publishing predictions in a variety of areas, here’s one for the music world.

I’m going to suggest that 2021 is the year when a 21-year-old Nashville artist named Lanie Gardner breaks out and hits the big time.

Her stunning cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” attracted more than nine million views on YouTube since being posted in early October and more than 40 million views across a variety of social-media platforms.

It was almost like watching a reborn Stevie Nicks, with Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood declaring that even he was “absolutely blown away by this”.

That was followed up with an electronic version of “Dreams”, recorded with French DJ David Guetta and Danish DJ MORTEN, which dropped on December 4.

Then the charismatic young singer came back with another Fleetwood Mac classic, “Rhiannon”, which was posted on YouTube in early December.

This time, she played an acoustic guitar and sang in a way that put any claims of lip synching to rest.

Gardner has been signed by Jonas Group Entertainment, founded by Kevin Jonas Sr., father of the Jonas Brothers.

Once this pandemic is over and musicians can resume touring, expect to see her hit the road.

Nearly five years ago, Lanie Gardner posted a video of her singing "Stay With Me", by Sam Smith. Check out the bloopers after the song is over.

      She’s a natural performer with a quirky, laid-back style.

According to her management team, Gardner has been singing since she was four years old and writing songs since she was 12.
