It’s goodbye sleep, clubbing, and cranking Black Flag while making dinner-party cocktails, and hello motherhood for Sara Quin.

The Vancouver-based musician—and one half of Tegan and Sara—released an Instagram shot yesterday announcing that she’s a new mom. The self-taken photo was posted on the band’s Insta and Twitter accounts along with “My #crybaby”.

As Tegan and Sara fans know, Crybaby is the title of the indie-pop duo’s upcoming full-length. Produced by John Congleton (Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten), the album is the first Tegan and Sara album of original material since 2019’s Hey, I’m Just Like You.

But we’re getting off track here. Right now the big news is that Sara Quin and her partner are indeed the owners of a brand new baby, who will not only cry, but scream and interrupt all attempts to sleep in the months, years, and decades ahead. And as hellish as that might sound, it’s also profoundly beautiful.

Ever clever, the Quins have also used the news to have fun at the expense of those who can’t tell Tegan from Sara, and Sara from Tegan.
