Rapper Travis Scott has issued the following statement after eight people died in a stampede at his November 5 concert at the Astroworld Festival in Houston:

"I'm absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.

"Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.

"I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department and NRG Park for their immediate response and support.

      "Love You All."

The Astroworld Festival, which Scott founded, issued a statement also stating that it is focused on supporting local officials.

Scott has a history of whipping up crowds at his shows, as described in this Huffington Post article.

He's also been criticized for continuing to perform for more than a half-hour after all hell broke loose in the crowd on November 5.
