Metro Vancouver now has four rapid-transit routes, if you count the Evergreen Extension as separate from the Millennium, Canada, and Expo lines.

But 32 years ago today, the first SkyTrain arrived at Waterfront Station on its opening day.

Naturally, the premier, Bill Bennett, was present at the time.

According to the TransLink website, service was free for the first eight days.

Regular service between Vancouver and New Westminster on the Expo line commenced on January 3, 1986.

Below, you can see a promotional video, which was released in 1984.
