B.C. premier John Horgan’s brother passed away last weekend, on January 11.

His office shared the sad news with a brief statement sent to media.

“It's with great sadness that we announce that Pat Horgan, Premier John Horgan's brother, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018,” it reads.

"Pat passed away from cancer at the age of 71. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends."

It adds that a service will be held in Port McNeill on February 10 and suggests that in lieu of flowers, people can make donations to the B.C. Cancer Agency.

It was known for some time that Pat was battling terminal cancer. Last December, the premier told the Province’s Mike Smith that the family had been grieving in private for most of 2017.
