The B.C. Coroners Service has not released the name of the 15-year-old Coquitlam male who died today as a result of gunfire in Vancouver on Saturday (January 13) night.

The teenager was shot while riding in a vehicle along Broadway near the intersection of Ontario Street

Mayor Gregor Robertson issued the following statement following news that the victim was an innocent bystander:

“I am deeply saddened to learn that the 15-year-old boy from Coquitlam who was an innocent passer-by in Saturday’s shooting in Vancouver has died as a result of his injuries.

“This news is incredibly painful and it angers me that this attack—an act of senseless violence—has taken the life of an innocent victim. This tragic situation happens very rarely in Vancouver, so it’s hard to believe it could take place.

“I know that the VPD are working very hard on the case and they’re fully committed to their investigation.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends of the young man in this dark time and I offer them my deepest condolences for their loss.”
