A light earthquake rumbled in the San Juan Islands at 10:57 p.m. on February 4.

Earthquakes Canada measured it as 2.8-magnitude tremor while the U.S. Geological Survey measured it as 3.1-magnitude quake.

The epicentre was located in Washington State's San Juan Islands at a depth of 12 kilometres (7 miles), and 19 kilometres (11 miles) east of Sidney, 27 kilometres (16 miles) northeast of Victoria, and 69 kilometres (42 miles) south of Vancouver.

Although there were no reports of damage, it was felt in Victoria, Sidney, Sooke, and the Saanich Peninsula and was reported by social-media users, including Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps.

The seismic event followed a 1.1-magnitude quake that occurred at 3:18 p.m. on February 3 in the San Juan Islands at a depth of 17 kilometres (10.5 miles) about 32 kilometres (20 miles) northeast of Victoria.
