The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) issued a warning today (February 8) that a sex offender will be living at a halfway house in the city.

Cameron Eugene Ratelle is a 39-year-old federal offender convicted of sexual assault against a person under 18 years old and women on Ontario university campuses.

According to the VPD, he poses a risk of significant harm to the safety of young women, especially those between the ages of 16 to 25 years old. The Correctional Service of Canada has assessed him as a moderate to high risk for violent and sexual reoffending.

He is described as a black male who is 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has a stocky build, shaved head, and brown eyes, and uses hearing aids.

His statutory release forbids him from being on the property of any educational institute or school (including universities); from being in the presence of anyone 18 years old or younger (without a parole officer's permission); from possessing, purchasing, or consuming or accessing alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or pornography; or from accessing any internet site or computer.

He also must wear an electronic monitoring device.

Anyone who witnesses him violating these conditions is asked to call 911.
