According to Vancouver police, a man has been rushed to hospital from a posh West Side neighbourhood after being shot.

The shooting occurred just after 1 p.m. on Marguerite Street near West 49th Avenue.

Police have not revealed names or any other details.

Coincidentally, the gunfire took place close to the former long-time family home of businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik, who now lives in Surrey.

He was acquitted in 2005 on charges of mass murder and conspiracy in the deaths of 329 passengers on Air India Flight 182 and two baggage handlers at Japan's Narita Airport.

Malik has asserted in court that he has no financial interest in the Marguerite Street home.

His co-accused, Kamloops mill worker Ajaib Singh Bagri, was also acquitted in 2005.

      Update:

Vancouver police reported that the shooting victim died. His name has not been released but police say he's a 32-year-old resident of Surrey.

According to police, the shooting was not random and no arrests have been made.

This is the city's sixth homicide of 2018. At this rate, Vancouver is on track to record more murders this year than ever before.

Back in 2013, there were only six homicides all year, which was the lowest annual figure in a very long time.
