It was a shocking assault to anyone who's seen the video footage.

A man of Asian ancestry, appearing to be in his 30s, suddenly kicked a Richmond librarian, knocking her to the floor on February 28.

And it prompted a police manhunt that attracted a great deal of media attention yesterday.

This afternoon, Richmond RCMP say they've "made significant progress".

The suspect who's allegedly responsible has been identified.

The incident was not linked to a community presentation that evening and it was neither racially nor ethnically motivated.

"We remind people to exercise a critical lens in what they see, hear, or read before any judgements are made," Cpl. Dennis Hwang said in a news release. "If anyone has witnessed or filmed an incident that may require our involvement, please contact the police first.”

No names have been released and the woman is not injured.
