Minor earthquake shakes southern Vancouver Island

      A small earthquake shook southern Vancouver Island tonight (March 6).

      According to Earthquakes Canada (part of the federal Natural Resources Canada), the quake struck at 10:06 p.m. Pacific standard time and measured magnitude 2.4.

      Its epicentre was at a depth of 10 kilometres, 14 kilometres WSW of Sidney on the Island and 19 kilometres northwest of Victoria.

      There were no reports of damage, and Earthquakes Canada said on its website that it was "lightly felt" in Victoria, Sooke, and Langford on the Island.
