Who will score next for the Vancouver Canucks?

    1 of 1 2 of 1

The Vancouver Canucks haven’t scored in three games. They play tonight at home against San Jose and if they don’t score in the first 23 minutes, they will set a franchise record for longest scoreless drought.

Surely the Canucks won’t go the rest of the season without scoring a goal (right?). So, who’s going to step up to the plate? Here are some homemade odds on which Vancouver player hits the twine first.

      Bo Horvat – 1/3

The Canucks’ best forward without Brock Boeser in the lineup, one assumes Horvat will hit 20 goals on the season. He’s at 18 right now and he’d sure love to add a couple more to that total.

      Daniel Sedin – 1/3

With 21 goals, Sedin is leading the Canucks’ current roster in putting the puck in net. The Sedins could get going against Joe Thornton and the Sharks as they’ve been able to do in the past, including a nice one that featured a Thomas Vanek assist in January this year.

      Jake Virtanen – 1/6

With Boeser, Sven Baertschi and Loui Eriksson on the mend from injury and Vanek traded, Virtanen is third in goal scoring on the active roster. That’s the good news for those hoping the sixth-overall pick in the 2014 draft turns into a productive player. The bad news is that he only has eight goals. He’s been playing his best hockey in the latter half of the season, giving the hope that he might able to light the lamp tonight.

      Sam Gagner – 1/10

He’s been getting powerplay time with all the injuries, so it’s very possible that the veteran is able to put one past Sharks backup ‘tender Aaron Dell (likely to get the start given that Martin Jones was in the crease last night against Calgary). After all, he did post 18 tallies with Columbus last season. Then again, seven goals in 63 games as a Canuck doesn’t inspire much confidence.

      Brandon Sutter – 1/12

A beautiful backhanded goal against Nashville earlier this month may have inspired some confidence in the shutdown centre.

The rest of the field – 1/5

This is probably the safe bet, as there a few Canucks who’ve shown the occasional scoring touch this year. Will it Darren Archibald, the fan favourite who showed some nice dangles on a recent penalty shot goal against the New York Islanders? Or what about defencemen Michael Del Zotto or Alexander Edler?

      Brock Boeser – 1/100

Hey, it’s possible that the Canucks just don’t score again this year and the burden is left on Boeser starting next season.
