The Sea to Sky RCMP zone commander has reported an avalanche-related fatality on the south coast of B.C.

A skier was trapped in the area of South Creek near Pemberton on March 28.

Police responded after being contacted by a heli-skiing company at 2:39 p.m.

The skier was found in critical condition but the person died just after 4:30 p.m.

This was despite efforts by emergency-services personnel to bring the skier to Whistler Health Centre.

The victim has been identified as Lisa Korthals, a Pemberton real-estate agent and employee of Whistler Blackcomb.

The was working as a heli-guide escorting a group when the tragedy occurred.

According to the Re/Max Sea to Sky Real Estate website, Korthals is a level 4 ski instructor with a degree in adventure tourism.

For today, Avalanche Canada has issued "considerable" risk of avalanches in alpine areas and a moderate risk at the treeline in the Sea to Sky region.

Avalanche danger signs are sometimes put up in high-traffic areas, like beside this parking lot on Hollyburn Mountain.
