Ten-storey condo building may be developed at former site of Harvey’s Furniture in Vancouver

Last year, Harvey’s Furniture and Appliances closed after nearly a century of doing business in Vancouver.

The old store at the northwest corner of Kingsway and Earles Street is now a presentation centre for a condo development nearby.

The shop is wrapped by a huge sign advertising The Windsor, a project located a few blocks to the west on Kingsway across the 2400 Motel site.

It may not be long before the former location of Harvey’s itself becomes home to a new condo building.

In June last year, a pre-application open house was hosted by Coromandel Properties about its plan for the 2751 Kingsway property.

One of those who attended the event was Joseph Jones, a local resident who is also a staunch advocate of community interests in the face of new developments.

Based on photos taken by Jones, the preliminary plan presented by Coromandel Properties involved a multi-storey condo development.

One component is 10 storeys on Kingsway and Earles Street. Another part is five storeys on Kingsway to the west. At back of on Duke Street is four storeys.

“There has been no formal application yet on the Harvey’s site,” Jones told the Georgia Straight in a phone interview.

The website of Coromandel Properties lists as of Monday (April 23) the former Harvey’s location as one of its future developments.

However, Jones said that he has heard that Coromandel Properties may no longer own the site.

“It was definitely Coromandel who presented the project, and it really looks to us like Coromandel has sold this thing off to Imani,” Jones said.

Imani is the developer of The Windsor, the condo project whose presentation centre is at the old Harvey’s site.

Coromandel Properties and Imani Development Corporation did not respond to requests for an interview.
