B.C. RCMP announced today (May 18) that they have arrested a man suspected of making menacing calls to Metro Vancouver residents.

Between November 2017 and April 2018, a number of women across the Lower Mainland received several harassing, indecent, and threatening phone and video calls.

On February 28, B.C. RCMP made an announcement to warn the public about these calls. They stated that the male caller would accurately identify the woman answering the call by name and address, and claimed that he was watching her through cameras he had installed in her home.

He then threatened to kill her or a family member unless she engaged in a sexually explicit conversation with him. RCMP advised anyone receiving such a call to record the caller's phone number, hang up and not engage in conversation, immediately report the incident to police, block the number if possible, and use an unlisted name and number.

On May 16, RCMP arrested an adult male in Qualicum Beach, B.C., on Vancouver Island in relation to the calls.

He was released and has not yet been charged, but he is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on July 18.

The investigation, led by the Surrey RCMP general investigation unit, remains ongoing and involves the B.C. RCMP Lower Mainland criminal intelligence analysts, and the Surrey detachment crime analyst section.
