The B.C. Coroners Service was dispatched to Wreck Beach after a body was reportedly discovered in the area late Monday afternoon (June 11).

The body was found on the University Endowment Lands near the main UBC campus shortly before 3 p.m., according to an RCMP media release.

"On June 11, 2018, the University RCMP responded to a report of a found body near Wreck Beach at Pacific Spirit Regional Park," it reads. "The Canadian Coast Guard was initially called out just before 3 p.m. after a passing boat operator saw what he believed to be a body in the water some distance offshore from Wreck Beach. Vancouver Police Marine unit also assisted with the recovery of the body.

"The unidentified body was brought to Vanier Park Beach in Vancouver and the University RCMP and BC Coroners responded," the release continues. "A sail boat and row boat believed to be associated to this incident was towed to a nearby marina for further examination."

There's still no word on whether or not foul play may have been involved. The RCMP media release states that the force's investigation is just getting underway.
