As summer approaches, there's a greater danger of fires raging out of control.

That's of particular concern in the Tri-Cities area, where someone or some people have been setting fire to bushes and grassy areas.

Coquitlam RCMP issued an alert this morning seeking the public's help to find who's responsible for burnt-out areas around Chine Drive and Dixon Street in Port Coquitlam.

One fire was set on May 30 and two others were ignited on May 21.

"The motive for the fires is unclear, but they happened at the time when cottonwood seeds were at their peak," RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said in a news release. "No matter the reason, these fires were potentially criminal. They did significant damage to surrounding vegetation and could have spread to nearby homes. We want to make sure that the person or people responsible make better decisions."
