A teenager who disappeared in a lake southeast of Chilliwack a week ago has been found dead.

Chilliwack RCMP received a call around 4 p.m. on June 12 about an incident at Chilliwack Lake. An 18-year-old male who was swimming to shore to retrieve a drifting fibreglass motorboat had vanished beneath the water at the south end of the lake.

RCMP and Chilliwack Search and Rescue conducted a search but scaled back the search after being unable to locate the missing young man.

RCMP announced today (June 19) that their Underwater Recovery Team located the body of the missing teen. Although his identity has not been released, Langley Times  reported him as being from Surrey.

The B.C. Coroners Service is in the early stages of investigation and no other information is being released.
